recently my home system got the unholy bejeezus kicked out of it by something called 180advertisement, among others with names so bizare I can't recall how to spell them. It's gotten itself into the start up registry and even going into Safemode for maintenance din't help.

Anyway, if in the next couple days you receive an email or PM from me, delete it. Don't even bother looking at what it says.

Once Friday night comes around, I'll be back to normal.

So yeah, anything you see sent from me between now and then, ignore it.

actually this thing is just trying to sell "spyware remover" programs. A pop up telling you to buy their popup killers... yeah.

Did you try MS AntiSpyware program yet?

That thing is a pain. My kids puter had it and it took about an hours worth of program removal, dll unregistering and registry editing to get it all off.

I've had good luck with MS AntiSpyware as well, although it works better as a preventive measure than an after the face cure. If someone's computer at work gets severely infested, running Ad-Aware, Spybot, SpySweeper, and MS AntiSpyware all in a row still won't remove everything. Usually I have to get into the registry and also delete some executables in the system folder.

Ghuda I had that a few weeks ago....I was REALLY annoyed that it was trying to sell me spyware.

It was a trojan that put that spyware embedded in my startup apparently. What I did was download MS AntiSpyware (Beta 1) and installed it. Then you uncheck the box that asks if you want to have restore points made on your computer (in properties somewhere). Then I ran the spyware, then restarted in Safe mode, ran it again, then restarted in regular mode. Taht got rid of it. When I was sure it was gone, I rechecked my restore box.

Took me about 7 hours to get rid of it, mostly because I couldn't figure out why it was recreating itself over and over.

I just format and start over. :D all my important data is on my secondary drive.. I learned my lesson long ago... if I won't use antivirus I must keep my os on a seperate partition or disk.

My husband got some sort of trojan thingy on his computer the other day that wouldn't ALLOW him to reformat! When he'd try to format C, an ANSI message would pop up that said WRONG MACHINE.. and laugh at him. It was horrible and we had to take it to our family expert (my brother) to get it fixed. He got it trying to get some downloads for his PDA and, thank goodness, immediatly got off the network so it didn't get onto my machine at all. Some of these things are just evil, and the people that create them are going to have some terrible karma to work out... glad I'm not them.

yes I used MSAntispy, AdAware, SpyBotS&D, modified msconfig, did it all in safe mode and back again. As mentioned above, it has attached itself to the basic startup files of Windows. I might end up having to reinstall Windows to give it a fresh start. IE is completely corrupt, and it probably would have only been a matter of time before it spread to Mozilla.

Gave it a good scrubbing, soaked the motherboard in Irish Spring soapy water, and should be back in business tomorrow.

Just how does something remove Administrator access from the only account on the machine?! ah well, always an adventure in Ghudaville.

well, machine is back under control. Things seem to be all hunkey dorey... except for this:

The latest WoW patch won't download correctly. File 1474, named something like Azeroth_32_47.whatever, fails to load like it is corrupted or something, so I still can't play WoW.

No owned consoles, bored of the one GBA game I got, EQ expired... I am down to Hearts and listening to NumaNuma on repeat.

if there was a way to make that the default Ironforge music, I'd be a happy man.
