• Arid with blue-green and brown sand/soils. Safe water on the surface.
• Safe temperature during the day. At night the temperature drops at a slow rate so be careful (or wear warmer armor)!
• Deeper below the surface are areas of slime and sewage along with poison waters. Make sure to fill in/cover the poison water before wandering around down there. You will know to watch out for poison water when you see those greenish

So there were a few fairly large patches this week. One that fixed/added a bunch of stuff but made it REALLY challenging.. so challenging I was getting one-shot by birds on the starter planet, heh. So they patched it a few more times to tweak and it's much better now.

I started a few chars to get a 'nice looking' starter planet and settled on Skirr, the human scavenger, checking out a blue-green planet. So I just started slowly upgrading my home, but damn does it get cold at night! ...

Starbound is a very Terraria-esque game with more to it! There's NPC settlements (friendly and not), cultists and alien creatures, and tons and tons of planets to explore along with gathering, mining, crafting, building. There is also server capability where multiple players can set up on a homeworld and go out exploring, etc.
